The Brief
After successfully partnering with Skyventure, the parent company of the IBA, we were approached to design and build a comprehensive training platform for indoor skydiving instructors. The platform needed to be intuitive, accessible across all devices, and capable of handling the IBA's rapidly expanding membership base.
Key requirements included a robust CMS to manage training content, user accounts, and the certification process. Additionally, the IBA needed an integrated email system to communicate with members, along with a dashboard to track training progress and certification statuses.
The Solution
Now in its third iteration, the platform has evolved significantly with each version building on past successes. Versions 1 and 2 were developed using PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript, powered by an ExpressionEngine CMS.
As membership expanded and new requirements emerged, we migrated to a custom-built solution using Node.js. This shift allowed us to scale the platform, improving its performance, security, and overall user experience to meet the IBA's growing needs.
The new tech stack also enabled integration with cloud services like AWS, boosting reliability and scalability. We implemented a new email system to enhance member communication and developed a dashboard to monitor training progress and certification statuses.
In 2023, the IBA introduced membership fees. We integrated Stripe as the payment gateway and developed a custom dashboard for managing memberships, processing payments, and communicating with members.
Looking ahead to 2024, we are incorporating AI to help flyers find the content they need more easily and instructors to enhance their teaching skills.
The Result
The IBA now has a robust, scalable training platform that meets the needs of its growing membership. The platform is user-friendly, accessible on all devices, and allows instructors to complete their training at their own pace.
Our custom admin dashboard provides the client with easy management tools, enabling efficient updates to training content and streamlined tracking of certification statuses. The integrated email system has significantly improved member communication, resulting in higher engagement and retention rates.
Over the 12 years of the platform's existence, it has grown to serve over 80,000 members and 4,000 staff. The platform has been instrumental in establishing the IBA as a leader in the indoor skydiving industry, serving as a central hub for training and certification.
